West Kelowna’s Willow Beach closed for the month, adjacent park closed until June

The City of West Kelowna has closed both Willow Beach and the adjacent Willow Point Park to begin work to repair damage done during historic flooding in 2017.

Crews will begin to move materials into the area at the end of this week and construction is set to begin after the long weekend.

As a result, Willow Beach will be closed until the end of April, while Willow Point Park is expected to be blocked off to the public until June.

Crews will be removing the gabion wall at Willow Point, stabilizing and restoring the shoreline with naturalized river rock and gravel slopes, as well as restoring the park, beach and volleyball courts.

The nearly $500,000 construction contract was awarded to Landmark Solutions Ltd. and around 80% of it is covered by the province’s Disaster Financial Assistance Program.

As a result, the City anticipates a cost of about $95,000.
