Lightning storm sparks 10 new wildfires on Vancouver Island

The BC Wildfire Service is responding to multiple new wildfires on the Island after a lightning storm yesterday morning.

A total of 10 fires sparked from the weather event, which officials said they were aware of and prepared for.

The fires are located within the North and Mid-Island fire zones.

The BC Wildfire Service says that thunderstorms are expected across the southern half of BC this week.

This could mean new wildfire starts and increased growth on existing fires.
