Wildfire has reached the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge grounds, staff confirm

(Update: July 25, 2024): The iconic Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge has been left mostly intact by the wildfire.

The owners of the resort posted on social media last night to say that, while the hotel "did incur fire damage," most of its buildings – including the main lodge – are still standing. Click here for more.

Staff have confirmed this evening that the wildfire destroying much of Jasper has reached the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge grounds.

The extent of the damage is unknown, however it is confirmed that the fire has reached parts of the resort grounds.

Staff said that at this time, they know that parts of the resort remain untouched from the fire. Staff are monitoring the situation remotely.

“We are extremely thankful that all our colleagues and guests have been safely evacuated. We hope the same for all others in the area,” the resort said on social media.

“The dedication of our first responders and those coming to our aid cannot fully be expressed. We are all sending wishes of safety and strength.”

The fire hit the main part of Jasper earlier in the night, forcing some firefighters to evacuate.

Some structural firefighters with breathing apparatus remain to try to protect key infrastructure such as the wastewater treatment plant, communications facilities and the Trans Mountain Pipeline.

Harjit Sajjan, Minister of Emergency Preparedness, said this evening that a request from Alberta to provide “immediate and urgent support from the Federal Government to protect people and homes in Jasper and communities across Alberta,” has been approved.

Images shared online are showing various structures in different parts of the town engulfed in flame.
