Your Voice: Why hasn't BC looked at mobile home parks to solve the housing crisis?

Dear Editor,

I can’t understand why our government hasn’t looked at mobile home parks as an answer to the housing crisis in BC.

The government purchases the property, sets up all the utilities and low-income folks are qualified to purchase a mobile home.

The pad rent is regulated to keep greedy landlords out of the picture. This way the government gets its money back.

The property would be in the Fraser Valley, not Vancouver.

It does not make sense to me why our government would even consider putting low-income people in the most expensive city in Canada!

I realize this idea could take our government years to digest but the cost is minimal compared to putting up buildings with no space for children to play and no return on our money spent.

As we speak another trailer park is closing in Mission BC.

Where are these people going to go?

Even if they could move their trailer (at the landlords expense) there is absolutely no empty pads available in BC.
