Rockets fall to Rebels on Friday night in Red Deer

Last night our Kelowna Rockets were defeated by the Red Deer Rebels 7-0 at the ENMAX Centrium in Red Deer, Alberta.

Both teams started the game strong with equal scoring chances in the first period, but the Rebel's Brandon Hagel scored first with a breakaway goal 11 seconds into their power play. Just two minutues later, Dallon Melin extended the Rebels lead going into the second.

Under 10 minutes into the second period, Rockets goaltender, James Porter, found himself out of this net to play the puck and the Rebels were able to extend their lead to three after Chris Douglas batted the puck into an empty net.

Red Deer's captain, Reese Johnson, got the Rebels second short-handed goal of the night just minutes later. Kelowna's Head Coach, Adam Foote elected to make a goaltending change after the fourth goal replacing Porter with Roman Basran. Red Deer headed into the second intermission with a 4-0 lead.

Carrying the power play over from the second period, Red Deer started the third with a goal just 49 seconds in from Jeff de Wit. Rebel's Morozoff increased their lead on the power play to 6-0 just over five minutes into the third, and Red Deer ended the game with a ricocheted shot off a Rocket's defender into the net fromm Carson Sass.

With a final score of 7-0, Kelowna's record is now 8-13-1-0.

The Rockets will return to the ice tomorrow in Edmonton when they face the Edmonton Oil Kings at Rogers Place to wrap up their six-game road trip.

Kelowna will be at home again this Wednesday when they host the Regina Pats for Hat Trick Wednesday at Prospera Place.
