The day started with Katie Vincent making history as the first Canadian woman to win a gold medal in any canoe or kayak event at the Olympics.

Vincent did so in the C-1 200m event (solo canoeing) as she crossed the finish line with a time of 44.12 seconds.

The Canadian set a world record with her time and just barely squeaked past an American, who finished with a time of 44.13 seconds.

Another Canadian who also had a photo finish on Saturday was Marco Arop.

Arop sprinted to a national record in the men’s 800m final, earning a silver medal with a time of 1:41.20.

The Canadian finished behind Kenyan Emmanuel Wanyonyi by a hundredth of a second in what was one of the closest finishes in the history of the event.

Canada’s third medal of the day was another historic one as Phil Wizard (Philip Kim) won gold in the inaugural breaking event.

The Canadian won all three rounds of the final to earn the first-ever gold medal in the event.

The Olympics wrap up on Sunday with several events followed by the closing ceremony.
