A Canadian-made brand of multicookers is reporting a technical malfunction, causing some of the cookers to melt due to overheating issues.
Problems were found with the Gem 65 8-in-1 Multicooker, causing "localized melting damage to the underside of the product," stated Instant Pot in a statement on Facebook.
"We want you to know that we take any problem with our products extremely seriously as safety and quality are our primary concern, and we are working cooperatively with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC)," stated a spokesperson for Instant Pot.
One customer witnessed "bubbles forming on the bottom," according to Roxana Chee.
Instant Pot says it will provide more information on steps to replacing the Gem 65 8-in-1 Multicooker within a few weeks.
Consumers had been frustrated with the company's lack of action on the safety defect prior to the recall and are concerned about issues with other Instant Pot products.
The Gem 65 8-in-1 is just one of the dozens of models produced by Instant Pot. It provides eight cooking options, including roasting, stewing, baking, steaming, slow cooking, searing, rice cooking and keeping everything warm.
For now, has identified issues with products having the following batch codes:
1728
1730
1731
1734
1746
To find the batch code, locate the silver, four-digit, label underneath the product.
The company advises consumers to immediately stop using the recalled product.
While the majority of Instant Pot's sales come from the U.S., Instant Pot was invented in 2010 out of Ottawa by a group of former Nortel employees, including Robert Wang.
